The Role:
The Senior Trading Performance Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall performance and profitability of the sportsbook trading function. This highly analytical role combines strategic oversight with hands-on management to ensure efficient trading operations, accurate pricing models, risk management, and continuous performance optimization.
This role will deal with a range of strategic trading topics including expected/theoretical margins at customer, competition and event level, in-play delays, market and event uptimes, settlement speeds, price volatility, wider market pricing analysis, competitor and analysis and more.
The role ensures that all necessary trends and run rates are monitored including actives, turnover & margin trends, bet mix, pre-match & in-play performance, impact of player profitability and more.
The role identifies and analyses performance trends that subsequently drives data driven decision-making from operational trading, risk management & support teams.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the continuous assessment of trading performance to optimize performance.
- Responsible for creation, implementation and distribution of statistical data analysis, evaluation and reporting requirements relating to overall trading P&L performance.
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly Sportsbook performance, ensuring revenue targets are met or exceeded.
- Analyze trading performance metrics, including margin, hold percentages, and turnover, providing recommendations for improvements.
- Produces weekly, monthly and quarterly trading performance reports.
- Maintain trading margins matrix to track and achieve margin targets by breaking it down into smaller margin components.
- Collects data and key insights to tell compelling stories to key Sportsbook stakeholders using strong narratives and data visualisations.
- Liaise with senior management on trading performance, market insights, and strategic initiatives.
- Leverage data and analytics to drive informed decision-making and develop actionable insights.
- Creation of innovative and scalable solutions for process automation relating to Sportsbook trading.
- Explore new technologies, tools, and markets to enhance trading performance and improve operational efficiency.
- Operationally install a Trading Efficiency dashboard showing true market level performance against theoretical margin configuration.
- Develop and maintain risk management strategies to protect the sportsbook from large exposures and ensure balanced risk.
- Provides requirements around creation and provision of trading tools & dashboards to support all ongoing trading activity including proprietary trading.
- Oversee the development and improvement of trading models, tools, and algorithms to optimize efficiency.
- Collaborate with the product, technology, teams to ensure alignment on trading initiatives & trading product development.
- Evaluate commercial impact of 3rd party feeds and forecast the most viable trading proposition strategy considering operational impact and optimal product experience.
- Operational ownership of 3rd party odds comparison service with ability to impact an external roadmap according to Pragmatic business needs.
Requirements:
- Deep knowledge of Sportsbook Trading with a proven track record of driving trading performance and profitability in a trading environment.
- Intensive understanding of sports betting markets, odds compilation, and pricing models; familiar with statistical distribution methods and their application to sports modelling.
- Experience with risk management and trading technologies; able to use concepts such as Monte Carlo simulation, backtesting and maximum drawdown to ascertain risk exposure for various sports trading assets.
- Technical Proficiency in dealing with trading systems, data analytics tools, and algorithmic trading models & platforms.
- Clear and concise communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders on trading performance topics.
- Comfortable conducting analysis with the ability to interpret complex data sets and derive insights to improve trading performance. Desirable SQL skills to extract data from data warehouse and manipulate in Power BI.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, data visualization, and desirably VBA knowledge for automation of recurring operational processes.
- Giving engaging and easy-to-understand presentations on trading related topics is a major component of the role requiring strong oral communication skills, tone of voice, creativity and delivery.
- You are a creative and innovative thinker who naturally questions conventional approaches and encourages new ideas and innovations relating to trading best practices.
- Flexible approach to working hours. The role will require working with internal teams working shifts, service providers & operators in various locations across different time zones. You are always available during core trading hours.
