🟢 Build the next version of Mapon
Mapon builds B2B SaaS for companies whose work happens in the physical world. Our platform helps businesses manage vehicles, drivers, and equipment, improve road safety, reduce costs, automate daily operations, and comply with complex transport regulations.
We started in Riga in 2006. Today, more than 35,000 clients use Mapon, with over 400,000 connected devices on the platform. We have 200+ colleagues across Europe and a network of 150+ partners worldwide. In 2025, Mapon grew revenue by 22.8% to 24.2 million EUR while remaining profitable. We have completed 8 acquisitions and intend to keep growing organically and through M&A.
We are now hiring a CTO for Mapon's next growth phase.
This is not a maintenance role. Not changing is not an option. The job is to modernize a mature, business-critical platform, build an engineering organization that scales beyond individual contributors, and make technology a stronger driver of customer value and profitable growth.
You will report directly to the CEO and have the mandate to change how Mapon makes technology decisions.
🚀 The challenges you’ll tackle
The work is technically broad and commercially meaningful:
- A mature, multi-product SaaS platform that must be modernized while customers depend on it every day.
- High-volume, near-real-time telemetry from more than 400,000 connected devices.
- APIs and integrations with customers, partners, vehicle manufacturers, and hardware vendors.
- GPS devices, cameras, BLE sensors and other hardware that operates in imperfect real-world conditions.
- Transport and driving-time rules across many European jurisdictions, where correctness is part of the product.
- Private cloud and on-premises infrastructure that must remain secure, observable, resilient, and cost-effective while its future direction is evaluated pragmatically.
- Products, systems and teams added through acquisitions that need a clear integration or convergence path.
- AI that can change both how we build software and what value we create for customers.
You do not need to arrive with every answer. You do need to know how to make the important trade-offs known, decide with incomplete information, and turn decisions into shipped outcomes.
🔎 What you will own
Tech strategy and investment
- Translate company strategy into a clear, written technology strategy and investment priorities.
- Keep the technology roadmap dynamic and connected to customer value, revenue, risk, and cost, rather than treating it as a fixed multi-year plan.
- Make principled build, buy, partner, retire, and migrate decisions.
- Create a transparent way to balance product delivery, platform work, reliability, security, and technical debt.
- Shape technology OKRs and budgets with the executive team
Engineering and leadership
- Lead Mapon's multi-team engineering organization through its leaders, not around them.
- Clarify ownership, decision rights and accountability across products, platforms and shared systems.
- Develop strong engineering leaders who can make sound decisions without waiting for the CTO.
- Raise the bar for hiring, feedback, performance and succession planning.
- Reduce key-person risk and build an organization that becomes more capable as it grows.
Architecture, platform and delivery
- Own the long-term technical direction across our products and shared platform.
- Guide the modernization of a mature codebase without destabilizing the service or pausing customer delivery.
- Improve architectural consistency where it creates leverage, while avoiding central standards that slow teams down.
- Improve delivery speed and predictability through better systems, smaller decisions and clearer constraints, not more ceremony.
- Ensure teams design for maintainability, scalability, reliability, security, performance and cost.
Reliability, security and operations
- Make observability, service ownership and operational excellence part of everyday engineering.
- Establish meaningful service levels and improve detection, response, recovery and learning from incidents.
- Maintain Information Security to keep secure product development and risk management built into engineering work.
- Own evidence-based decisions about the evolution of infrastructure and operational architecture.
AI & data
- Make AI-assisted development a normal part of the engineering lifecycle where it improves speed, quality or learning.
- Measure the effect of AI through outcomes such as cycle time, quality and customer impact, not licenses purchased or code generated.
- Build the technical and organizational foundations needed to use Mapon's data responsibly.
- Work with Product leadership to identify and validate AI-enabled customer opportunities with a credible path to commercial value.
M&A and executive leadership
- Lead technology due diligence and post-acquisition technical integration planning.
- Decide when acquired products should remain independent, integrate with the Mapon platform, or converge over time.
- Represent technology in executive and board discussions with clarity about options, economics, and risk.
- Support strategic customers and partners when senior technical involvement can unlock trust or progress.
- Be a direct, constructive partner to the CEO and the rest of the executive team.
🤝 What success looks like after 12 months
- Mapon has a technology strategy that is understood across the company, tied to business priorities and reflected in team-level decisions.
- Every critical product and platform area has a clear owner, and key-person dependencies have been reduced.
- Senior engineering leaders run their areas independently, make cross-team decisions faster, and escalate fewer decisions to the CTO.
- Delivery, quality and reliability have a credible baseline and a visible improvement trend across measures such as lead time, predictability, change failure, incident detection and recovery.
- Priority modernization work has produced shipped results, not only architecture documents, and teams can deliver more independently as a result.
- AI-assisted engineering is standard practice where it works, with measurable gains and quality safeguards.
- Mapon has a repeatable technology playbook for evaluating and integrating acquisitions.
- Technology investment is discussed in terms of customer value, growth, cost and risk, not only output or technical elegance.

🧩 What we are looking for
We care more about the complexity and change you have led than an exact title or team size. You are likely to be a strong fit if you have:
- Led a multi-team engineering organization in commercial B2B SaaS, ideally through meaningful growth, modernization or organizational change.
- Built and coached managers and senior technical leaders, rather than keeping all important decisions with yourself.
- Strong architectural judgment across data-intensive systems, APIs, integrations and reliable production services.
- Been accountable for systems in production, including availability, observability, incident response, security and technical risk.
- Made technology portfolio decisions using commercial judgment, including when to invest, simplify, buy, migrate or stop.
- Worked as a real partner to Product, with shared accountability for customer and business outcomes.
- Communicated effectively with executives, boards, enterprise customers and senior engineers.
- Enough technical depth to challenge a design, interrogate an incident and earn credibility with engineers, without becoming the team's principal individual contributor.
- Fluent English. This is required because the role works with colleagues, customers and partners across multiple European countries.
Strong advantages include experience with:
- IoT, M2M, telematics, hardware-connected software or other distributed systems that interact with physical assets.
- High-volume telemetry, event processing, analytics or data platforms.
- Transport, logistics, fleet management or regulated software.
- Private-cloud, on-premises or hybrid infrastructure.
- Technical due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
- Introducing AI-assisted engineering at organizational scale or building commercial AI/data products.
Fleet-management experience is useful, but it is not required. We would rather hire an exceptional technology leader who learns the domain quickly than a domain expert who cannot lead the transformation.
💰Compensation
The base salary starts from EUR 7,000 gross per month, depending on experience and expected impact. The package also includes a long-term performance-based incentive tied to company results. We will explain its structure, measures and potential value in the recruitment process.

🍽 Paid lunches in the office;
🏆 Personalized employee benefits after the probation period, from which you can choose the most suitable for you (health insurance (including mental health support, dental care, and massage courses), additional sports program or employer contributions to your 3rd pension pillar (Indexo));

👍Health Days— take time off when you’re not feeling well;

🏆 Flexible working hours — the possibility to start your workday anytime before 11:00;
