About Paybis
Paybis is a global fintech company operating at the intersection of crypto and traditional payments. Since 2014, we've been building products that help people and businesses buy, sell, and exchange cryptocurrency. We serve 8.6M+ customers across 180+ countries and operate as a self-funded company with ~200 people across Europe, Ukraine, and the US.
We hold a MiCA CASP authorisation and a Payment Institution (PSD2) licence in Latvia, alongside FinCEN MSB and FINTRAC registrations.
About the Role
We're looking for an Accountant to join our finance team, reporting to the Head of Finance. You'll work alongside our Treasury Manager and a team of 3 accountants, owning the numbers behind a fast-growing, multi-entity, multi-licence fintech — from statutory close to the regulatory financial reporting that keeps our MiCA and PSD2 licences in good standing.
What You'll Be Working On
Financial & Statutory Accounting
- Own the monthly/quarterly close process across group entities
- Manage outsourcing accounting bodies ensuring timely preparation of the reports from their side
- Prepare statutory financial statements per jurisdiction (Latvia primary, plus US/Canada/Poland entities as applicable)
- Manage multi-currency and multi-entity consolidation
- Coordinate annual statutory audits with external auditors across jurisdictions
- Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and accounting policies aligned with IFRS
Regulatory Financial Reporting
- Prepare and submit regulatory financial returns to Latvijas Banka (MiCA/PSD2 prudential reporting, own-funds calculations)
- Own safeguarding / client-money reconciliation for PI and (pipeline) EMI obligations
- Support FinCEN/FINTRAC/VASP financial recordkeeping and reporting requirements
- Build the reporting framework ahead of UK FCA prudential/regulatory obligations
Crypto & Payment Accounting
- Own crypto-asset accounting: fair-value measurement, custody reconciliation, wallet-to-ledger reconciliation across 90+ supported assets
- Reconcile card-processor, SEPA/SWIFT, and correspondent-banking settlements
- Reconcile B2B partner transaction volumes and revenue-share/fee calculations
Financial Operations & Controls
- Own AP/AR processes, expense management, and vendor payments
- Design and maintain internal financial controls appropriate for a regulated fintech
- Support the treasury function: cash positioning across fiat and crypto balances, bank/exchange account reconciliation
- Partner with Compliance and Legal on capital adequacy, safeguarding, and audit-readiness
What We're Looking For
Must-have:
- A degree in finance and 5+ years of proven accounting experience; ACCA/CPA is an advantage
- Crypto accounting experience gained at a VASP/CASP-licensed entity or a trading company — this is a must-have
- Multi-entity, multi-currency consolidation experience across at least 3–5 jurisdictions
- Regulatory financial reporting experience (PI/EMI/CASP prudential returns)
- Fluent English
Nice-to-have:
- E-money/EMI safeguarding accounting experience specifically
- Crypto custody / wallet reconciliation tooling experience
- Big 4 or top audit-firm background with fintech/crypto clients
- ERP/accounting systems implementation experience (NetSuite, Xero, QuickBooks, or crypto-native tools)
- Experience preparing for FCA prudential reporting
- Latvian language
Interview Process
- HR screen (30–40 min) — career narrative, communication style, autonomy fit
- Hiring manager interview (60–90 min) — technical depth, past ownership examples, chemistry
- Culture fit interview
- Reference check (optional) — with a CFO or finance leader from a previous role
What Success Looks Like
By month 3: Close process documented and owned; safeguarding-reconciliation process established; full map of regulatory financial filing obligations and deadlines; external audit relationships mapped.
At 6 months: Statutory accounts filed on time across all entities; regulatory financial returns (MiCA/PSD2 and others) submitted without CFO involvement in preparation; clean reconciliation of client-safeguarded funds.
At 12 months: Full multi-entity, multi-currency close completed in a defined number of business days; EMI and FCA financial-reporting frameworks operational ahead of licence grant/authorisation; clean audit opinions across all jurisdictions; CFO time on bookkeeping-level work eliminated.
