About the role
The International School of Latvia (ISL) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Elementary Teacher for a Maternity Leave Cover in our Kindergarten (KGT) classroom. As an IB World School, we are committed to providing an environment that is "Inclusive - Collaborative - Empowered" for both our students and staff.
In this position, you will lead a vibrant Kindergarten classroom, ensuring continuity and stability for our youngest learners. You will work within the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework, fostering an inquiry-based and student-centered learning environment. You will collaborate closely with a dedicated Teaching Assistant and the wider Grade Level team to support planning, differentiation, and student wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, play-based, and inquiry-driven instruction aligned with the IB PYP framework.
- Differentiate learning experiences to meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of all students, including EAL and SEND learners.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and structured classroom climate that promotes student agency and independence.
- Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and guide future instruction.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents regarding student development and classroom activities.
- Participate actively in collaborative planning meetings, professional development, and school-wide events.
Requirements
- Education: A recognized Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or a related field with pedagogical modules.
- Certification: Valid teaching credentials/certification from a recognized authority.
- Experience: Proven experience teaching young learners (ages 4–6), preferably within an international school or IB PYP setting.
- Skills: Fluency in English (written and spoken), strong classroom management skills, and a commitment to child-centered pedagogy.
- Legal: A clean criminal background check is required. Candidates already authorized to work in Latvia will be given preference.

It is accredited by both the Council of International Schools (CIS) based in the Netherlands and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) based in the United States. ISL’s last joint accreditation visit took place in 2010, when ISL was awarded a full term for continued accreditation by both CIS and NEASC. ISL’s next re-accreditation visit will take place in early 2018.
